Dave Ruden offers news, commentary and analysis on the FCIAC and local sports

Purple Spring

Last year was a Purple spring as the Westhill High School baseball team reached the finals of the FCIAC Tournament and won the CIAC Class LL championship, while the softball team won the FCIAC title.

The two teams are again the big sports stories in Stamford this spring, though it will take a little longer to see whether they will equal or surpass last year’s success. The combination of rain and Westhill’s prom tomorrow night have pushed back the final rounds of the conference tournaments.

The softball team will now meet Trumbull in the league final Saturday at 5 p.m. at Sacred Heart University.

The baseball team will face Darien in the semifinals at Trumbull High School Saturday at 2 p.m. If they reach the final, the Vikings will play the Trumbull-Staples winner Sunday at 1 p.m. at Harbor Yard.
