Last spring I prematurely blasted the Pamby Motors Strongest Man Competition before the first stone could be carried, tire could be flipped or truck could be pulled. On the surface none of these events seem to be a part of a high school football player’s training, and I thought players involved would spend their 2008 seasons in traction.
But no one was hurt, no one died, etc., and it was a fun event for the four schools involved: Host Ridgefield, Bridgeport Central, Newtown and Stamford. And yes, the events went hand-in-hand with a football player’s off season training.
The event will be held again at Tiger Hollow on June 20. Ridgefield head coach Kevin Callahan told me they made an announcement of the event back in March at the state weightlifting championships, and it was received with a lot of excitement.

Just a warning, it wasn’t an easy competition. Just ask Division I prospect Khari Fortt, who competed with his Stamford teammates last year. Here’s a link to a video of Fortt competing in the Sand Bag Shuttle, and his post-event interview.
