I can appreciate trying to help another program but this didn't help Ludlowe's program or their athletes. It was a poor decision.

c. deluca, all legit questions and concerns.

Here's one way to look at it though: It'd like when you do something good for someone else, and that person thanks you be slapping you in the face.

And I should ask... were you there for the non-contest?

Here's my question....what kind of high school football program schedules a team like this??? I understand that sometimes the dates for non conference games are hard to schedule but c'mon! This was a disaster waiting to happen. I believe the athletic director and the coach should do what's right and apologize to the players, parents, and community for this poor decision. There can be a lot of finger pointing but ultimately it should come down to who scheduled this game???? Here's another question....who addressed this situation to the parents in the stands and spectators??? I do believe they deserve some answers and those should have come from the coach and A.D., not the athletes themselves.

I covered the Staples-Ludlowe game on Friday and met some unbiased football fans who have seen both Ludlowe and Warde play, and they seem to agree with your assessment of which team will win, Fairfield follower.

And I have to agree with you about the mediocre histories of football in Fairfield. Both DellaVolpe and McCloskey have their teams on the right track though, and hopefully they can keep the interest going.

Here's a side note: When's the last time the public schools in Fairfield had better records than the private schools?

Warde may win their remaining games but they are far from a good team. The disparity between the good teams and the lesser teams in the FCIAC is very dramatic and i don't consider Warde a "good team". Right now the difference between them having a good year and just being the same old Warde is their early win against a then ill prepared Darien team. The rest of their wins are against pathetic opponents. I don't agree with the comments by "Warde" above that Warde has the better athletes. While Jacobs and McNamara are decent athletes, I think Ludlowe with Ferrara, Nagy, Finnegan, Ryan, Bralt, etc. are far superior. Coaching is obviously playing a part too, it will be interesting to see who pulls out a Thanksgiving day win but neither team has anything to truly brag about. What it boils down too is that Fairfield football has been so bad for so long that even a mediocre team at best is looked at as a saviour.

Comment on Turf Wars Over? Artificial Turf Tests Come Up Clean by soccer mom

So, who do you go to when you have medical/health concerns? I go to a doctor. So when there are potential hazards related to the rubber tire crumbs in artificial turf, who do you go to? The sales reps at the turf companies who are making and selling the turf? Not me, I rely on medical experts and doctors who are in the field of preventive medicine. Check out what the top pediatricians at Mt. Sinai are saying about the risks of artificial turf.

http://www.mountsinai.org/Patient%20Care/Service%20Areas/Children/Procedures%20and%20Health%20Care%20Services/CEHC%20Home/Overview/Videos%20and%20Presentations

Dr. Phil Landrigan, the director of the Children's Environmental Health Ceter at Mt. Sinai warns of the possible risks to children based on the ground up rubber tire that is used and is loose on these fields, being tracked into our homes and breathed in by our young children. So if tires were too toxic for offshore waste dumps that they had to be retrieved and removed because surrounding sea life was dying, why would we grind up this same material and use it on young children's playing fields? The concern is mainly for children under the age of 10 when they are most vulnerable during a critical time of growth and development.

NYC, the largest metropolitan consumer for artificial turf is no longer using the rubber tire infill in their fields. This is a change in what they have been doing. Why would they make this change with an increased expense unless they recognized that there is a possible risk.

Artificial turf made with crumb rubber infill is an avoidable risk, so why not avoid it for the sake of our children's health and the environment.

I would tend to have to agree with you on this pick. Though I believe Ludlowe can play with Staples and even might have a better team from a physicial/athletic point of view, they just don't have enough of the fundamentals working for them nor is the offensive play calling willing to challenge other teams to a battle in the modern football era.
