The arrival of Majok Majok appears to have hit a snag at Fairfield University and the talented 6-8 forward from Northfield Mount Herman Prep could be playing elsewhere this season.
According to an unnamed Northeast Conference coach, Majok has been unable to enroll at Fairfield for an undisclosed reason. The NEC coach said he was alerted to the situation by a JUCO coach in Midwest earlier this week.
A call to Fairfield coach Ed Cooley about Majok’s status was not returned on Thursday night.
Majok’s cousin, Ater Majok, withdrew from UConn over the past week and appears to be headed to Australia to play professionally.
Majok Majok averaged 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game at Northfield and attracted interest from Georgia Tech and Boston College, before giving a verbal commitment to Fairfield. However, he is not listed in the school’s preseason prospectus, which is compiled by the sports information department at Fairfield.
The Stags have already lost one player in their 2010 recruiting class with 6-7 forward Adam Jones going to prep school at in-state St. Thomas Moore. Jones reportedly will be a Stag next season though.
