The Webster Bank Arena will be a host site for the 2014 NCAA Hockey Regionals, according to Fairfield athletics director Gene Doris.
The building has played host to three previous NCAA Tournament over the past four years and done rather well attracting a crowd – even last year when Yale was not in the field.
This year, attendance for Friday’s regional semifinals was 5,090 and for the final Saturday it was 5,328.
The Bridgeport Regional finished first in 2011 with 15,487 fans over the two-day event while Manchester, N.H. drew 13,514 and Green Bay, Wis. had 8,311. St. Louis declined to release its attendance figures.
In 2009, the Bridgeport finished first again with a combined 16,956 fans. Manchester drew 14,476 while Minneapolis had 14,741 and Grand Rapids, Mich. attracted 7,222.
