Week 8 Football recap

by:

Four more games, four more Fairfield losses this past weekend.

Let’s look back at week 8.

Shelton 20, Fairfield Prep 13

The Good News: Well, Prep finally scored points in a game against an above .500 SCC club. By halftime, the Jesuits had been outscored 94-0 against the three winning SCC teams they’d played. Prep showed some guts, just not enough plays to win the game.

The Bad News: Prep’s offense turned the ball over twice, and its defense was Swiss cheese on Shelton’s lone TD drive. Jesuits had the chance to win, but drops sabotaged a couple of drives. Shelton kept Prep in the game, and Prep lost.

Twitter Opinion (140 characters or less): Prep’s had a nice year, but will have a hard time finishing above .500.

Up Next: Prep travels to West Haven to play Notre Dame on Friday at 7 p.m.

Staples 35, Fairfield Warde 17

The Good News: Warde had 17-14 halftime advantage over the seventh-ranked Wreckers.

The Bad News: The football game was 48 minutes. Warde gagged another tight game against a good foe, and I’m getting sick of harping on it, so I’ll stop.

Twitter Opinion: Mustangs still not ready to beat FCIAC’s big boys.

Up Next: Warde hosts Wilton on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Weston 42, ND 6

The Good News: The Lancers still haven’t been shut out yet this year!

The Bad News: ND didn’t even appear to put up a fight. Maybe Weston is really good this year.

Twitter Opinion: The Lancers have just two more weeks to get @LancersNDCoach his first varsity win. I think it’s coming soon.

Up Next: ND will travel to play Oxford on Saturday at noon.

Danbury 48, Ludlowe 14

The Good News: If you read Ludlowe coach Matt McCloskey’s quotes in the game story, you’ll see that the Falcons had their best game of the season.

The Bad News: Ludlowe lost by 34 in its best game of the season.

Twitter Opinion: A game at Norwalk and a game against Warde stands between Ludlowe and 0-10.

Up Next: The Falcons will travel to Norwalk High School to take on the Bears on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Where I’ll be

State playoffs start on Thursday, so I’ll release that when it becomes available. I assume I’ll be staying local, but you never know.

Congrats to Fairfield Warde girls soccer for reaching the FCIAC championship game and Fairfield Prep boys soccer for winning the SCC title. Listen to this week’s “Fairfield Sports Cafe” for more on those two teams’ runs to the conference title.

Take good care this week.

I don’t hate Prep. Why do people think I do?
