Buzz around Fairfield

This has certainly been a week of ups and downs in Fairfield sports.

Prep captain Matt Brophy with a "BH" tribute to recently deceased Prep junior Bradley Helt

Obviously, the death of Fairfield Prep student Bradley Helt rises to the forefront. We offer our sincerest condolences to both the Prep community and anyone close to him.

Prep decided to play lacrosse and run an outdoor track meet yesterday, as AD Steve Donahue explained in an email, “with heavy hearts.” Many Jesuits’ players had “BH” written in athletic tape on their helmets, and junior Kevin Brown decreed “it was a hard day.”

The Jesuits started fast, en route to a 13-5 win over Cheshire on Tuesday. Prep scored seven, first-quarter goals and improved to 3-0.

Calling all members of the 2002 Fairfield High School baseball team.

Fairfield Warde is honoring the 10th anniversary of the Class LL state championship team. Those players will be recognized during a ceremony prior to the Mustangs’ April 25 clash with Ludlowe at Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Ludlowe and Warde will play in Bridgeport at 6:30. All prospective honorees are asked to arrive at Harbor Yard at 6:15.

The Mustangs will also have the opportunity of a lifetime next week.

Warde will play a regular season game next Friday, April 20, at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, N.Y.

The team will trek to upstate New York on Thursday, receive a tour of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in the afternoon, then play Friday afternoon against Brien McMahon at 1:30 p.m.

Where I’ll be the rest of the week

Wednesday- Norwalk at Warde, baseball, 3:45
Friday- Ludlowe at St. Joseph, softball, 4
Monday- Ludlowe at Staples, baseball, 4
