Attorney General and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal will not be out and about as he usually is this Memorial Day weekend attending parades and other events.
Campaign spokesman Maura Downes told me he has chosen to instead spend time with his family and privately honor vets with low key visits to memorials.
Blumenthal has been under fire since The New York Times last week published a report his critics argue proved the popular Attorney General has mislead the public about his military service during the Vietnam era. Blumenthal has argued he has on occasion misspoke and never sought to misrepresent his record.
“He’s just committed to keeping the focus on veterans. He thinks Memorial Day weekend is a solemn occasion and the focus should be squarely and solely on honoring our service men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice to protect their freedoms,” Downes said.
Dick should be going out to these events. Show people he is better than this. Poor advisors in his campaign. It was fine for Shays to do this as a candidate, the GOP didn’t say anything then. Double standard that defines the GOP these days. Don’t be a coward Dick, stand up to them!
Good for him! He’s showing that he didn’t go to all those events int he past JUST for the media attention. At the end of the day, whether he actually fought in a war or not, he still enlisted and took the chance. I can tell you right now that I have the utmost respect for anyone who served in a division of our Armed Forces, even during a time of “peace”. He is no coward! (and I’m not even a fan of his)
JSchmidt, AG Blumenthal is definitely not a coward. Quite the contrary. He served his country, continues to serve his state and is probably one of the best friends a vet can have. How many Senate candidates can say that…. wait for it…… Uh, none.
