In sad twist, taxpayer $$$ not being used to maintain tax dept. parking

|

Visitors to the state Department of Revenue Services in Hartford as of March 13 will no longer have access to the Sigourney Street parking garage because it’s falling apart.

DRS announced this afternoon that the state Department of Adminstrative Services made the call to shutter the facility

“We sincerely regret that this change to visitors’ access to DRS is happening at the height of the income tax filing season,” DRS Commissioner Kevin Sullivan said in a statement. “However, the safety and security of the public and our employees has to be the first concern. DRS has and will continue to work with DAS to ensure the parking lots, shuttle transportation and security are working for all those who work in and visit our main office.”

Sullivan said alternate parking will be available in the Woodbine parking lot located on Park Place, Southwest of 25 Sigourney Street. A handicapped accessible shuttle service will run continuously between the peak business hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. with additional shuttles being deployed during peak morning and afternoon hours.

Asked what DAS’ plans are for fixing the garage and whether any funds have been set aside for the work, spokesman Jeff Beckham in an email wrote, “Resolution of the garage issues are under review. No decisions have been made.”
