AT&T lobbyist says telcom industry not declaring open season on CT parks

John Emra, an AT&T lobbyist, emphasized in an interview Thursday that controversial legislation opening up state parks and forests to telecommunications towers remains a work in progress.

Emra said although the industry wants to stop prohibiting equipment on state property, telcom companies are fine with revised language allowing the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) to accept or refuse applications on a case-by-case basis.

But DEEP spokesman Dennis Schain said the agency continues to oppose any changes to current policy.
