Easton First Selectman Tom Herrmann and Norwalk businessman Rob Merkle say they will circulate petitions to try to get on a primary ballot to oppose state Den. Dan Debicella, who earlier today received the GOP endorsement in the 5th Congressional District.

I would like to sign petitions to allow Rob Merkle and or Selectman Herrmann to qualify for the GOP primary in August. I believe Senator Debicella the party endorsed candidate needs some good healthy competion from either Merkle or Herrmann.
Do constituents really want political party insiders deciding who shall run for office? Voters certainly suffer as a result of this flawed process. So why do we allow it to continue?
Let’s have the candidates debate the issues and allow the voters to choose a candidate in a primary contest. Voters and voters alone must be allowed to pick their representatives or surely their voices will not be heard in Washington.
How do voters force a primary? Simple, sign a petition in support of your candidate and demand a primary take place. Go to your candidate’s website and they will provide the necessary information, but do so quickly because the deadline is June 7th.
Of course, we could all just hope that the Republican party knows best and will inform us who deserves to run for office just as they did in the NY 23rd disaster.
Let’s put Rob Merkle on the ballot and then send him to Washington to represent not only this generation of Connecticut voters but also the next. Rob is pro-life; Debicella is pro-choice. We know that the choice is death for the unborn! We can’t expect our congressman to do anything for a generation of children who have been killed through abortion. Rob Merkle is the right candidate to defeat Jim Himes.
