Former U.S. Congressman Rob Simmons, who lost the GOP nomination tonight to Linda McMahon, said he is not giving up the fight.
“I believe there’s a lot of time left in this campaign and I have sufficient funds to make a compelling case to voters before the primary … I intend to stay in this race,” Simmons just said.
He also said Republican Peter Schiff intends to keep going as well, circulating petitions. My colleague Neil Vigdor broke that story.
This is going to be a fascinating political season.

These 3 candidates: McMahon, Simmons and Schiff must hold monthly televised debates from now until August. That would mean 2 commitments from each candidate to debate the issues…this would allow the party to vote for the best candidate on August 10. If not all 3 are willing to hold a June and July debate…the message will be clear to voters…that certain candidates are not truly conservative. Conservatives stand by their principles and values and enjoy sharing their knowledge with others…rinos don’t.
Let the debates begin…..I bet McMahn takes a pass on this one.
Let’s recap Linda’s campaign … vote for me I’m not Dodd, vote for me I’m not Simmons and then the great vote for me I’m not Blumenthal. Her campaign is weak at best on ideology and the same strategy would have worked running on the D ticket. It was sad to watch the delegates vote and switch vote for Linda…I guess all of the $500 personal check donations to various RTCs did pay off. I bet the super delegates saw no issue with Chris Healy’s wife having a paid position on Linda’s campaign (no conflict there).
How emabarising that Linda is the party supported candidate…she’s no conservative…at best she’s a r.i.n.o like Rob.
Sad…very sad for our great country.
The truth doesn’t matter to Simmons apparently. He told me to my face if he did not win the convention he would not primary. He had his day. The delegates have spoken and now Simmons wants to break his word. Very disappointing.
Did Mr. Simmons “misspeak” when he promised he would support whoever the convention chose? Please wipe the slime off from your days in Washington and listen to your true heart of years ago when you had honor. This just proves that the people at the convention chose the right person.
Primaries can be a good thing, especially since the Dems will have one. It keeps our candidates in the lime light. If both Linda and Rob focus on Blumenthal, it will be a real plus. Now that Blumenthal has had his teflon finished marred by his own actions (not being honest with the voters), we need to keep the heat on. Someone should look carefully at all the money from the tobacco suit by Blumenthal and other AGs. Follow the money…how much ended up in the pockets of his former law firm? The firm got the privatized business in that lawsuit without a bid process. We are talking millions here. Then you can begin to list all the frivolous lawsuits he has filed or threatened to file over the years……at what cost to taxpayers? Then take a look at how his AG’s Office delays major projects in the state and the cost of that….it’s about time Blumenthal’s “real” character is exposed.
Rob…for the sake of CT and the GOP..please drop it and spend your time and money getting back your old House seat. Joe Courtney is a loser prime for being thrown out.
Too bad she is pro-abortion. She might have made a difference to the hundreds of women who need support, both moral and financial, to continue their pregnancies. The right to life trumps economics. Without it, no economic recovery has any value.
Simmons is showing his true stripes as a spolier and an opportunist. What he’s doing is soley for himself and it shows that he doesn’t care about his party or the people of Connecticut. Simmons was a failure and a loser as a U.S. Representative….he was defeated after three terms and there isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between him and his successor, Democrat Joe Courtney. Simmons voted as a Liberal Republican while a Congressman and he’ll vote the same way if elected senator.
