BRIDGEPORT — Republican Theresa Pavia, the endorsed candidate running against Linda Grace for the Republican Registrar of Voters seat, says she hears the machine that counts absentee ballots, located in the 2nd floor of McLevy Hall, was not programmed to count Beardsley School ballots.
Pavia, who was fired from her job as assistant registrar several months ago, said whenever she calls to inquire about this and other potential problems she has heard about at Bridgeport polling places, the registrar staff hangs up on her.
Democratic Registrar of Voters Santa Ayala said her office doesn’t program the machines. A private company does that through a special card fed into the machine.
“If Beardsley School is not on the card, it will be hand counted,” Ayala said. “If, for whatever reason, a ballot does not go through, it goes into the auxiliary bin and it would be hand counted.”
