Simmons considered independent run

by:

Rob Simmons, who failed to defeat Republican U.S. Senate nominee Linda McMahon in today’s GOP primary, said tonight he considered continuing his battle to return to Congress (he’s a former U.S. Representative from Stonington) as a third-party, independent candidate.

Simmons said he analyzed U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman’s 2006 bid. Lieberman of Stamford that year lost the Democratic Party’s nomination to anti-Iraq War candidate Ned Lamont, formed The Connecticut for Lieberman Party, and went on to win the general election. He now considers himself an “independent Democrat.”

But Simmons said his situation would be different and he determined he could not muster the same resources/support as Lieberman did four years ago.

Rob Simmons emphatically said NO to questions about running as an Independent. He reitereated that he has been a Republican all his life and would not change. He analyzed Lieberman’s run for the media in the context of 2006 and said that he would never consider doing something similar. Perhaps the author heard something different that I did, and everyone else who was there.

This is NOT the same thing Rob Simmons. Give me a break ! !!

McMahon will give Blumenthal all he can handle and could pull off an upset.
