DSCC Chair calls it for Blumenthal

Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Robert Menendez just issued a statement congratulating Democrat Richard Blumenthal on winning the U.S. Senate race.

But so far there has been no reaction from Blumenthal, his opponent, Republican Linda McMahon, or from the crowd that is gathering at the Hilton Hotel in Hartford for the Blumenthal campaign’s Election Day night party.

Meanwhile, Cool and the Gang’s “Celebration” is blaring from the ballroom speakers. Usually this is when the candidate takes the stage to a screaming crowd and the balloons drop.

Bizarre.

Here’s Menendez’s statement in full:

“Congratulations to Senator-elect Richard Blumenthal, who earned a decisive victory tonight in Connecticut despite being vastly outspent.  Senator-elect Blumenthal’s opponent spent upwards of $50 million on this race, yet at the end of the day, Connecticut voters went with the candidate who has fought for them for decades.  As Attorney General, Dick Blumenthal took on big insurance companies to control costs, big energy companies when they tried to develop in Long Island Sound, and big tobacco companies to stop them from marketing to children.  I have no doubt he’ll take this same reforming spirit to the U.S. Senate, where he will be a vigilant watchdog for Connecticut families.”
