Himes campaigner adds to confusion, voter says

A man campaigning in Bridgeport for U.S. Congressional candidate Jim Himes knocked on the door of a Poplar Street woman and told her vote at the incorrect voting station, according to the woman, Lisette Hernandez.

Hernandez’s designated voting location is Bassick High School, but the man directed her to vote at Central High School, she said.

Once she arrived at Central High School, Hernandez said she waited in a 90-minute line only to be turned away. A volunteer told her she was not on their voter list, “probably because (she) did not vote last year”, she said.

“This is a sacrifice for me,” said Hernandez, who has a tumor in her ankle. “I wasn’t going to vote because I’m in pain with my ankle, but this man knocked on my door and said, ‘vote for Jim Himes, vote now at Central,’ and he told me all about Obama’s visit … . He asked for my daughter, but I said she wasn’t there, and he said, ‘That’s okay, vote at Central.’ I wanted to support Obama, so I went. But now it’s too late to vote at all.'”
