GOP lieutant governor candidate Mark Boughton questions unofficial results from secretary of the state’s office

Danbury Mayor and GOP lieutenant governor candidate Mark Boughton said Wednesday afternoon that he is outraged over Sec. of the State Susan Bysiewicz’s pronouncement calling the gubernatorial election for Democrat and former Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy.

Boughton, when reached on the phone at his office in City Hall Wednesday afternoon, said never in his political career has a secretary of the state called an election before the results  have been certified.

“It’s clear that she (Bysiewicz) is being completly partisan,” Boughton said Wednesday. “And as the secteray of the state she has a duty to be non partisan.”

Bysiewicz, a Democrat, announced early Wednesday that Malloy won the gubernatorial race and is up by more than 3,000 votes in one of the closest races for governor in recent memory.

Boughton, who spent most of the election night in his campaign’s war room reviewing the results, said the figures they received from town election officials show Foley is up by almost 2,000 votes, which would require a recount under state statute.

“We just want to see the results,” Boughton said. “She (Bysiewicz) has Malloy up by more than 3,000. We want to see the numbers so we can compare them with our own. There is no harm in taking our time here. The next governor will serve for four years.”

Boughton added that they are hoping to receive a list of the unofficial results from the secretary of the state’s office later this afternoon.
