Judge dismisses lawsuit in attorney general race

An order was filed today in Hartford Superior Court by Judge Julia Aurigemma granting a motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by GOP attorney general candidate Martha Dean.

Dean, who lost her bid for the attorney general seat during Tuesday’s election, filed a lawsuit against Democrat and attorney general elect George Jepsen late last week claiming that he wasn’t qualified for the job.

Dean cited a recent Connecticut Supreme Court ruling that further defines the requirements of the office to include litigation experience.

While Jepsen declared victory in the race Tuesday night, Dean had yet to concede, waiting until all the votes had been counted in the race.

Jepsen will be replacing long time Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who served in the office for two decades before fighting and winning a bruising battle with Republican Linda McMahon for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Democrat Chris Dodd.
