Linda McMahon’s poor showing in Connecticut’s 2nd congressional district is being blamed by one GOP strategist on former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons, R-Stonington, whom the former WWE chief executive defeated in the August GOP primary.
Simmons never really got behind McMahon in the general election campaign, which some Republicans saw as key to keeping it close with Richard Blumenthal in the eastern part of the state and off-setting losses in the 1st and 3rd congressional districts.
McMahon’s strongest showing came in the 4th and 5th congressional districts, which cover mostly Fairfield and Litchfield counties, respectively.
