How much stomach does Foley have for a drawn-out fight?

 By Ken Dixon

As Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz waits for Bridgeport to file its vote tallies, it seems unlikely Republican Tom Foley would mount an all-out legal challenge unless final tallies are close and within the 2,000-vote threshold to prompt a recount.

At Foley’s 556,787 votes to 548,378 for Malloy, without Bridgeport’s totals as of late Thursday afternoon, Foley, who is somewhere in Hartford this afternoon, may be realizing he won’t make the recount minimum.

Bridgeport’s final totals may not be announced by Bysiewicz until 7:30 or so. If the numbers are stacked against Foley, he may very well come out tonight and concede.

Right now, Foley is relying on legal expertise mostly from his campaign advisors and GOP State Central Committee lawyers, who have been exchanging information on the Bridgeport ballot mess.  Justin Clark, Foley’s campaign manager is a lawyer and so is Trumbull Selectman Tim Herbst, who’s been monitoring the Bridgeport shenanigans. One exception to the circle of campaign insiders is Kevin O’Connor, Connecticut’s former U.S. Attorney and now with a law firm run by Rudy Giuliani. He was in the  back of the room at Danbury Mayor and Foley running mate Mark Boughton’s news conference. O’Connor is helping out the Foley campaign, but won’t say much more than that.
