“Quite frankly, I’m a Democrat and a Dan Malloy Democrat, and I would like to see Dan win the election, but not like this.” — Stamford registrar

When told about the state GOP’s public records request Friday by the newspaper, the Democratic registrar in Dan Malloy’s home city of Stamford was flummoxed to say the least.

“You know how long that’s going to take?” Alice Fortunato said of preparing the materials for inspection. “It just seems like an awful lot of information to be requested.”

Fortunato said the yeomen’s task requires collaboration between the registrars and town clerks, who are the custodians of absentee ballot materials.

Fortunato also said it’s her understanding that log books from each polling place are supposed to remain locked up for 14 days after an election.

Among the items that Republicans are requesting is the list of all election officials at each polling location including but not limited to the moderator, registrars, assistant registrars, ballot clerks, official checkers, tabulator tenders, demonstrators, challengers, absentee ballot counters, unofficial checkers and runners.

“They asked for everybody that walked in the door apparently,” Fortunato said.

Fortunato said it is in both parties’ interest to validate the election results, though.

“Quite frankly, I’m a Democrat and a Dan Malloy Democrat, and I would like to see Dan win the election, but not like this,” Fortunato said.
