Third-party candidate accepts Malloy as winner

This just in: Tom Marsh, the Independent Party candidate for governor has accepted Democrat Dannel Malloy as the winner in the gubernatorial race. Now its just a one-to-one face off between Malloy and Republican Tom Foley. (But wasn’t it always?)

Here is the unedited release:

Marsh Congratulations Governor-Elect Dan Malloy

Chester, Connecticut — November 6, 2010 — Independent Party candidate for governor, Tom Marsh, issued the following statement following the official announcement of the results of the gubernatorial race:

“I congratulate Dan Malloy on his hard- fought victory and wish him well as he begins the task of addressing the significant challenges facing Connecticut. I encourage the Governor-elect, as well as our new legislature and constitutional officers, to be true to their campaign pledges to make government more responsive and effective, address the burdensome bureaucracy that has stifled economic growth in our state, and to represent the interests of citizens rather than narrow concerns of special interests. I challenge every member of the electorate to hold their elected officials accountable to their word, to stay engaged in the process, and demand better than what we have seen in the past.

“I thank all those who have been supportive of the efforts of the Independent Party. The election more than met the objectives set early in the campaign. The Independent Party qualified for ballot status in every Constitutional office race, as well as numerous state legislative races. We now set about the work of building on that success and expanding our grassroots organization. The Independent Party will continue to offer the electorate an option based on practical solutions, accountability and integrity in governance.”
