Gov. guard: Inaugural ball at “no cost to state”

With all the talk about strapped state finances, Governor Malloy’s inaugural festivities at the Connecticut Convention Center bypasses talk of inappropriate extravagance with an event that will have “no cost to the state,” according to he First Company Governor’s Foot Guard, the event’s organizers.

Tickets cost $2,250 a table for a sit down dinner, and $175 per person for those choosing to forgo the table for the buffet.

I’m reporting here at the convention center, and so far, there are lots of sequins, black ties and fancy gowns in the house, 3,000 guests from all over the state, most enthusiastic members of the Democratic Party, turn out to celebrate the first Democratic governor in two decades.
