Opening day begins with breakfasts for campaign volunteers

Welcome to opening day at the Capitol. The Senate president and Senate majority leader are hosting a breakfast in the Old Judiciary on the second floor of the capital for Democratic senators and their families, as well as a few key volunteers from the campaign trail. The Senate Republicans’ breakfast will begin at 9 a.m. in the Old Approps room.

“Everyone is excited, it’s a new beginning,” said an aide organizing the Democrats’ breakfast.

Dorothy Morrill, of Columbia, was invited to the by state Sen. Edith Craig, D-Columbia, because she organized her campaign, wen door to door, and mailed flyers.

“It’s very nice, it’s an honor,” Morrill said, about getting an invite.

The menu is nothing exotic, the aide said – just some scrambled eggs. Gov.-elect Dan Malloy may stop by, but he has a packed schedule today.
