The new senators were just sworn in and welcome into the Legislature. State Sen. Eric Coleman walked in late and had to be sworn in seperately, drawing laughter from the crowd.

The new governor has already impressed the state with his bold appointments, said Dan Williams, who was just sworn in as president pro-tem of the state Senate.

He has been direct about the needs of shared sacrifice to direct Connecticut back to prosperity, he added.

Other notes from his address:

– We must work together to reduce energy and healthcare costs. Jobs have gone to Canada because costs are less there.

– Towns compete for funding and is a costly system. Town leaders have ideas to promote regional cooperation and efficiency. Now id the time to push those forward.
