WASHINGTON — With not a moment to spare until the newly-minted Sen. Blumenthal and his family were about to skip town for Hartford, former U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Conn., paid a congratulatory social call to Blumenthal at the Democrat’s office.
“He’s got a great opportunity, and he knows it,” Shays said of his longtime friend. “I said 30 years ago, ‘He’s going to be a senator.’ I know he’s going to love this. He never wanted to be governor. This is the job he wanted.”
