Stratford democrats nominate town council, BOE candidates

The town’s Democratic Town Committee gathered at the Baldwin Center Wednesday night to nominate election candidates for town council and the education board.

Three of four democrats currently seated on the council are seeking re-election; all of them won nominations.

Stephanie Philips and Jason Santi were nominated for second terms representing the second and fourth districts, respectively. David Fuller was nominated for his first full term representing the sixth district on the council. Fuller was sworn in as a councilman in January following the resignation of Scott Potter.

Maria Ferrara was nominated for the seventh district council position currently occupied by Kim Meuse, who will not seek re-election.

Mary Young was nominated in the first district, Amanda Soderberg was nominated in the third district, Olivia Gombar was nominated for the council position in the fifth district, James Connolly was nominated in the eighth district, Robyn Greenspan was nominated in the ninth district and Flo Langdon was nominated in the tenth district.

Jancee Pust Marcone, Eric Lazaro and Debbie McKay earned nominations for seats on the Board of Education.

DTC Chairman Rick Marcone said the endorsements so far have not been contested.

“I certainly like to hope we can switch seats over from republican to democrat,” he said, “but the main thing is we’ve identified some new candidates who hopefully will bring some fresh some fresh ideas and hopefully the public will embrace some fresh faces.”

He added, “Every election is important and municipal elections are certainly important because the people that we elect are the people we entrust to directly make decisions that affect us the most.”

The Republican Town Committee will meet Thursday night at Mill River Country Club to nominate candidates for election.
