Trumbull primaries are next week

CORRECTION: Registrar of Voters William Holden alerted me to the following: “As of 11:00 am today, Ted Lovely is an unaffiliated voter. Andy Palo and Robert Pescatore Jr. are both currently enrolled as Republicans. None of these three people enrolled as Democrats.

“The Republicans will hold a Town Committee meeting for the purpse of endorsing candidates–a primary will only be held if a sufficient number of people sign petitions for a candidate(s) to challenge those endorsed at the Town Committee meeting. A primary, if held, would be on September 13. I’m not sure of the manner in which Democrats select their candidates, but I think they follow the same procedure.”

A very high profile Trumbull Democrat will explain why he’s switching parties at the Trumbull Republican Town Committee primary on Tuesday, first selectman Tim Herbst said.

Commenting on the Republicans who have left the party for the other side in town, Herbst said the GOP has recruited three times as many people.

“We have waiting lists of people trying to get on the RTC,” Herbst said.

Most recently, town council member Martha Jankovic-Mark announced she was joining the Democrats. Board of Education Chairman Ted Lovely, Board of Education member Ted Lovely, Board of Finance Vice Chairman Andrew Palo and Town Council member Robert Pescatore have also changed ranks to the Democratic side.

Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia will give the keynote address at the event, which will be held at the Tashua Knolls Country Club.

The Democrats will hold their primary at the same location the night before.
