Bevilacqua wants to rejoin Trumbull DTC ticket

TRUMBULL – Louis Bevilacqua announced would like to rejoin Democratic slate and will run for a seat representing the 7th district of the Town Council. Bevilacqua said he was dropping out of the race just days before.

“I have resolved some of my questions…and I believe I may have remedied the concerns….,” Bevilacqua said in an email. “I have decided to remain on the ballot until the local Democrat committee officially votes otherwise.  I was, of course, just trying to work within the system and I believe for the good of the party I should stand for office as a Democrat representing the 7th district so that I can have official office to continue my work on behalf of the people.”

Trumbull Democratic Committee chairwoman Nancy DiNardo said she asked Bevilacqua to step down and he agreed.

“I met with Louis and talked to him about the fact that he may be getting a job in the campaign which would preclude him from campaigning himself,” DiNardo said.

The DTC will meet sometime within the next two weeks to name a new candidate for the 7th district, DiNardo said. She said Bevilacqua is welcome to submit his name for consideration.

Other changes on the Democratic ticket are that John Lawlor, a Darien police officer, replaced Mike Rappa as a Town Council District 1 seat candidate. Also, Jerri Marrocco, a faculty member at the Yale School of Nursing, replaced Tom Ragonese as a Town Council District 6 candidate.

Republican Board of Education candidate Doug Wentz is also expected to drop out of the race.
