Former state Sen. Ernie Newton: Foster can ‘get us going in the right direction’

Former state Sen. Ernie Newton is a Mary-Jane man.

“She ll bring jobs to the East Side, help small businesses and get us going in the right direction,” said Newton, who was forced to resign in 2006 and spent four years in prison on corruption charges.

Newton was greeted with fanfare Tuesday morning at the Dunbar School, where he voted for Foster in the mayor primary against incumbent Bill Finch.

Asked about his own political plans, Newton was coy.

“We’ll see next year,” he said.
