Foster casts her vote at Black Rock School

Democratic mayoral primary candidate Mary-Jane Foster, surrounded by friends and family, voted shortly before 11:30 a.m. today at Black Rock School.

“I feel terrific,” she said as she greeted a number of well wishers outside the Brewster Street building. “Thanks for turning out,” she shouted out to a number of voters.

“I’m just surprised at the number of people who know who I am and who followed the race closely,”she added.

Foster said the race “has been energized,” most likely because of the obstacles in her path to today’s primary.

“It’s all about getting out the vote,” she said. “There isn’t anything more basic than that.”

Foster also said she’s confident about the day’s outcome. “I think people realize the city needs something fresh — a fresh perspective — someone with varied experiences outside of public service,” she said.

By 11 a.m., Foster had already visited a number of polling places and planned to visit others.
