Shortage of ballots in Bridgeport? No way this time

The chances that Bridgeport will run out of ballots this Primary Day appear to be nonexistent.

Democratic Registrar of Voters Santa Ayala, still stinging over criticism for failing to order enough ballots in November’s gubernatorial election — she had 21,000 printed, several thousand short of what was needed — vowed not to be caught short this time.  She ordered 40,000 ballots for today,  or one for just about every registered Democrat in the city.

As of Monday morning, reports Post staff writer John Burgeson, there were 42,799 registered Democrats, 4,472 registered Republicans and 19,764 unaffiliated voters in the city; 156 were registered with minor parties.

If predictions of a primary turnout ranging between 20 percent and 30 percent turn out to be true, they’ll have plenty of scratch paper/ballots left over after today.

Only registered Democrats can vote in the Democratic primary between incumbent Mayor Bill Finch and Mary-Jane Foster.
