$earch engine: former Google lobbyist stumps for McMahon

Rick Murphy, who runs a government relations firm — that’s Washington-speak for lobbyist — steps from Capitol Hill is hosting a March 19 fundraising reception for GOP Senate hopeful Linda McMahon at his DC townhouse.

A former  senior staff member for Senator Judd Gregg, R-N.H., Murphy has hosted numerous fundraisers for Republican types, from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to colleague Dick Lugar.

Murphy’s clients included search engine giant Google during the first quarter of 2011, according to official filings with the Clerk of the House of Representatives and the Secretary of the Senate.

According to an invitation to the event, the suggested donation is $250 per person, which is in keeping with McMahon’s strategy of emphasizing the number of donors rather than the size of their political contributions.

Hosts of the event are expected to contribute $1,000 to McMahon’s Senate campaign.

McMahon invested $50 million in her mostly self-funded 2010 candidacy. This time, she is trying to get literal buy-in into her campaign.
