Whitnum: I’m a Democrat and I’m not going anywhere.

Between her divisive – critics say anti-Semitic – positions on Israel, her attacks on party stalwarts and her lawsuit against the governor, it’s difficult to imagine what else Lee Whitnum of Greenwich could do to attract the anger and disdain of members of the Democratic Party.

Whitnum’s recent appearance on Channel 3’s Face the State with host Dennis House

While interviewing Whitnum for a story on her bid for the U.S. Senate nomination – her third attempt to head to Washington D.C. since 2008 – I asked why she continues to seek Democrat support? Why not run as an independent?

“They’re going to have to come around to me. I’m a Democrat first,” Whitnum said citing, as one example, her strong support of organized labor. “I’m in this party to stay. I may be the bastard child right now but guess what? I’m in this family too and you need to deal with it.”
