McMahon’s termite problem?

In what her campaign billed as a major announcement, GOP Senate contender Linda McMahon rolled out an economic revival plan today with its own dedicated website — the cornerstones are tax cuts for the middle class and businesses.

McMahon’s choice of venue for the event, Zavarella Woodworking in Newington, could leave her to do some explaining, however.

The self-made multimillionaire has been a harsh critic of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act — that’s the stimulus plan in layman’s terms.

During her 2010 run for Senate, in which she won the GOP nomination but lost the general election to Democrat Richard Blumenthal, McMahon released the following campaign mailer:

“We’ve been telling you all year. The stimulus package and bailouts have failed — adding TRILLIONS in new debt,”

But Zavarella Woodworking received $35,604 through the very same program, according to the official government website that tracks stimulus funding.

Here’s the response from the McMahon campaign.

“He was one of several companies hired as a subcontractor by a company in Massachusetts that received stimulus funds,” said Erin Isaac, a spokeswoman for McMahon.
