Newt: Romney’s speech ‘insulting’

There were plenty of people in and around politics calling Mitt Romney the presumptive GOP nominee for president, even before sweeping five northeastern primaries tonight.

Newt Gingrich, who came in a distant third in tonight’s Connecticut primary and was defeated handily by Romney in four other states, isn’t one of them.

Gingrich, who told reporters earlier in the day he’ll evaluate his plans after the dust settles tonight, told reporters earlier today that Romney’s planned victory speech in New Hampshire — in which he aimed his fire at President Barack Obama and not his GOP rivals — was “insulting” to the voters in states whose primaries were today:

“I think it’s a very substantial mistake for Gov. Romney to give a general election speech tonight in New Hampshire. He is not the nominee. I think it’s a little insulting to people in these states,” Gingrich told reporters.

The Associated Press has the rundown on Newt.
