The conservative elite of Greenwich are in for a good cry.
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, will visit the fundraising Mecca in June to mine cash for both his re-election bid and his political action committee, Hearst Connecticut Newspapers has learned.
The date and location of the event are still being finalized.
A message seeking comment from Team Boehner, a joint committee comprised of Boehner’s Ohio-based re-election campaign and his Freedom Project political action committee, was left at the organization’s Washington, D.C., office Wednesday.
Connecticut Republican Chairman Jerry Labriola Jr. said he has heard rumblings about an upcoming visit by Boehner.
“Certainly, we would welcome the Speaker of the House in Connecticut with open arms at any time,” Labriola said.
“I’d love to have the chance to talk to him about expanding our majorities in Congress to include some Republican voices in the U.S. House of Representatives, which I believe we are positioned to deliver this November. Connecticut is getting the short end of the stick in Washington without having a voice in the Republican majority.”
Since Republicans reclaimed control of the House in the 2010 midterm elections, Boehner has gained notoriety, some positive, some negative, for his penchant for shedding tears during news conferences and interviews.
