Women for Linda meet Women for Murphy

Republican Linda McMahon lost her bid for U.S. Senate in 2010 in part because female voters didn’t embrace the candidate and her family business, Stamford-based World Wrestling Entertainment.

So McMahon – who is again seeking the GOP nomination to run for U.S. Senate in November – has been focused on addressing that problem through Women for Linda and “just us girls” gatherings.

Now one of McMahon’s potential challengers – U.S. Rep. Christopher Murphy of the 5th District – has announced his own “Women for Murphy” mini-campaign.

Murphy has already been trying to combat McMahon’s outreach to female voters by staking out a strong position in the recent national debate over freedom of religion and contraception.

One woman who won’t be joining Murphy’s team any time soon? The other major contender for the Democratic Senate nomination – former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz.

Bysiewicz’s campaign website touts her own record fighting for women and endorsements from female-focused Political Action Committee’s like EMILY’s List.
