Lumaj: GOP convention process a “sham”

U.S. Senate hopeful Peter Lumaj at the Feb. 22, 2012, Republican Town Committee meeting in Greenwich.

HARTFORD — Peter Lumaj is fuming.

Considered somewhat of a longshot to make a real dent during tonight’s Senate endorsement session at the state GOP convention, the immigration and criminal lawyer from Faifield says he’s under tremendous pressure to bow out of the contest.

“The whole convention is going to turn out to be  sham,” Lumaj tells Hearst Connecticut Newspapers. “Then there’s a lot of pressure being applied by the party that certain campaigns should just fold and endorse Linda (McMahon) or Chris (Shays).”

Lumaj, the first Albanian-born candidate for U.S. Senate, says that neither McMahon nor Shays have the chops to win in November.

“I think the leadership of the party should be held responsible if we lose this election,” Lumaj says.
