Working Families Party stands by Donovan

The Connecticut Working Families Party in late December endorsed state House Speaker Chris Donovan’s, D-Meriden, bid for Congress.

Donovan’s campaign was rocked last week when his finance director was arrested on federal charges of allegedly concealing the source of certain donations related to a little-noticed piece of legislation.

Donovan has said he knew nothing of the shenanigans and pledged to remain in the race.

And so far Working Families has his back.

Here’s a statement Lindsay Farrell, the party’s director, sent me earlier today:

“It’s really unfortunate that members of the campaign did this. Chris Donovan is a great guy, who has always stood up for working people and their families, and he’s always done it with honesty and integrity. His commitment to clean elections and good ethics legislation over the years makes it unimaginable that he could have known that this was happening.”
