Shays to air first TV ad

Chris Shays, who’s been on the wrong end of a massive spending disparity in the GOP Senate primary, is finally hitting the air waves with a TV ad.

Shays, a former congressman from the 4th district,  had previously said he couldn’t afford to air TV ads and had resorted to putting together YouTube spots featuring George Costanza.

The Associated Press reports:

His 30-second spot will begin airing Thursday on the Fox News network.

The ad highlights Shays’ congressional experience without mentioning the name of his wealthy GOP rival, former wrestling executive Linda McMahon.

It says only one candidate in the Aug. 14 primary “voted to balance the budget, cut taxes and spending” and is not afraid to take on Washington. It features Shays’ wife Betsi, who describes her husband as someone who has done the job before and loves the work and his constituents.
