Stamford Dems will be in short supply at Obama rally

There won’t be many members of Stamford’s Democratic City Committee present at President Barack Obama’s campaign fundraiser at the Marriott later this evening, according to members of the Party.

“From the DCC, I don’t know anyone else who’s going; no one has told me they’re going,” said DCC Chairman John Mallozzi. He noted that State Rep. Gerry Fox originally planned on attending, but will not be going to the event.

Polly Rauh, who has been involved with the DCC for a long time, and is currently the president of Stamford’s Board of Education also said she does not know of anyone else who will be attending the Stamford event. “Ellen Camhi isn’t even going,” she said, referencing the powerful Stamford Democrat who sits on the National Democratic Committee and also serves on the State’s Board of Education.

But the Democratic drought doesn’t seem to be affecting other nearby towns. Evonne Klein, former First Selectwoman in neighboring Darien, said the town’s committee will be well-represented at the Stamford Marriott.

“There are more than a dozen going from Darien,” she said. Klein and her husband, Randall Klein, who is the chair of the town committee, Vice chairman Shawn St. Jean and District 3 representative Carolyn Bayne are among the Darien Democrats heading across the town line for the evening event.

Mallozzi said he is not concerned by the lack of Stamford DCC members who will be in attendance, citing a high ticket price (scoring a shot to see the President comes at a cost of $500) and a healthy number of other Stamford residents who will no doubt turn out to make for a healthy-sized crowd.

“I’m sure there will be a large group from Stamford. That’s what Kevin Segalla said over the weekend,” he said.
