Nantucket Reds

They live in Greenwich.

And summer in Nantucket, where the seasons are used interchangeably as verbs and nouns.

And now they’re helping Mitt Romney, who has been savaged by the political left for keeping money in off-shore accounts, bring oodles of campaign cash back to the mainland.

A network of top campaign bundlers, a number of them wash-a-shores from Greenwich, will host a pair of a fundraisers for the GOP presidential nominee-in-waiting Aug. 18, highlighted by Starwood Capital CEO Barry Sternlicht, Hearst Connecticut Newspapers has learned.

Sternlicht would be the former hotelier who ran the Starwood empire.

St. Regis, W Hotels, Sheraton, Westin, ring a bell?

If you thought it was expensive to hang with President Obama when he came to the Westport estate of Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein on Monday — $35,800 a plate was the asking price — that was a cheap date.

The Romney campaign is said by multiple sources to be commanding an entry fee in the neighborhood of $50,000 for an audience with the former Massacusetts governor at Sternlicht’s pad, which appears to be on the market for $16.9 million.

Fear not, if you’re price point is more in line with the ferry than chartering your own flight to the island getaway of choice for many denizens of Greenwich.

Romney is expected to appear at a $2,500 per person shindig earlier in the day at the Nantucket pad of Jeffrey Jay, managing director of Great Point Partners, a private equity firm based in Greenwich.

Prooceds from the Sternlicht soiree are said to be going to the Romney Victory Fund, which will disburse the first $2,500 to Romney’s campaign itself, the next $30,800 to the Republican National Committee and the remaining funds to help the GOP cause in Massachusetts, Idaho, Oklahoma and Vermont.

Tom Foley, former U.S. ambassador to Ireland and 2010 GOP gubernatorial candidate, is said to be on the host committee of the event but not attending.

President Obama is, of course, no stranger in another favorite summertime retreat of the rich and famous: Martha’s Vineyard.

The incumbent is forgoing his annual retreat to the Nantucket neighbor, however.
