Hearst Newspapers Education Reporter Linda Lambeck caught Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in the Capitol complex this morning after the annual pre-school yeare meeting with public school superintendents. Asked later whether Speaker of the House Chris Donovan should pursue the 5th Congressional District seat on the Working Families Party line, the governor begged the question.
“I think Democrats, Republicans and Independents should support Elizabeth Esty,” Malloy said of the former one-term state House member from Cheshire, who won the Democratic primary last week. Today Donovan will meet with state union officials whose members vote for Working Families Party candidates, even though there are only 171 actual registered members, to determine whether he’ll run as a third party in November.
