Esty announces fund raising results

5th District Congressional candidate Elizabeth Esty announced Monday that she raised $650,000 in the most recent quarter, what her campaign is calling her strongest fund raising effort yet in the race.

That would give the Democrat a total of about $2.1 million that she’s raised in her run for a congressional seat, although she spent more than $1.2 million leading up to the August primary according to the latest reports available from the Federal Elections Commission.

That same report noted that Esty, an attorney from Cheshire, had also loaned more than $500,000 to  her own campaign. The campaigns are required to report their third quarter fund raising results through the end of last month by Oct. 15.

“I’m proud of the growing support we’ve received from people across Connecticut and across the country who are investing in our campaign to bring commonsense leadership to Washington,” Esty said Monday in a prepared statement about the fund raising effort.

Chris Cooper, a spokesman for the Repulbican in the race, state Sen. Andrew Roraback, said the campaign is still awaiting the final results from the quarter and has yet to release any numbers.

“I can say its been robust and increasingly growing and when we do report our number people in the district will see exactly how compentive this race is,” he said.

As of July 25, the latest numbers available from the FEC, the Roraback campaign had raised about $572,000, most of which was spent prior to his primary victory in August.
