No love lost between Blumenthal & McMahon

The things that get said behind closed doors when there are no reporters lurking — or opposition video trackers, for the matter.

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., had fellow Democrats in stitches Monday night in his hometown of Greenwich during a fundraiser for Christopher Murphy, a spy tells Hearst Connecticut Newspapers.

During the $500 minimum per person event, which was closed to the media, Blumenthal appealed to the well-heeled crowd to contribute to Murphy’s campaign against Republican Linda McMahon.

In 2010, Blumenthal defeated McMahon during her first Senate run, but not before an opposition research dump by her campaign that the then-attorney general exaggerated his military record.

For the his own sake, Blumenthal joked Monday night that Democrats should give so he doesn’t have to be reunited with McMahon for the next four years.

Murphy was said by our source to have raised $40,000 during the event, which featured a $1,000 per person VIP wine and cheese reception.

The event took place at the home of Leslie and Ashish Bhutani and the guest list included U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-4th District, and Ellen Schapps Richman, who hosted President Obama at her Conyers Farm estate in 2010.
