CT GOP raises $ more YTD, Dems sit on more cash in final month

Green is the dominant color, not blue or red, during the final throes of the campaign season in Connecticut.

With the lion’s share of money flowing to federal candidates, both major state parties have been  relegated to fighting for the scraps.

And here is the tale of the tape:

Between their federal and state fundraising accounts, Connecticut Republicans had raised $702,082 as of Oct. 18, compared to $535,668 for the Democrats, according to a Hearst Connecticut Newspapers analysis.

That includes contributions from individuals, as well as political action committees and town parties.

The most recent federal filing period covered the month of September, whereas filings with the state Elections Enforcement Commission reflect the span from Aug. 17 to Oct. 18. So it’s not exactly apples to apples, but it does give a good sense of the fundraising climate for the two parties.

State and federal filings show Connecticut Democrats sitting on more cash, with the party ending September with $108,283 in its federal account, in addition to $70,837 in its state account as of Oct. 18.

Republicans finished the month of September with $68,188 in their federal account, augmented by $25,780 in their state account as of Oct. 18.

If one adds the balances from the state and federal accounts, Democrats entered the final month of the campaign with about $179,120, compared to $93,968 for Republicans.
