Cookies and citizenry a nice match

Four Newtown High School freshman Girl Scouts opted to show their citizenship by showing up at the polls with boxes of cookies to sell  _ nothing like a sweet treat to reward a good citizen.

And you couldn’t miss them. Emma D’Adola donned a cookie costume, one she has worn for 10 years.

She and her friends may not be old enough to vote, but they were not without an opinion. She and two others, Mary-Kate Malin and Callie Kraushaar, are solid Mitt Romney fans.

D’Adola said she believes it is important to pay attention to what’s happening in the nation because soon enough it will be there turn to pick the nation’s leaders.

“It is our future,” she said.

“If I was able to vote, I would,” Malin said. “There’s a lot of things going on in government that make me cringe.”

Their friend Julia Scarangella was more about selling cookies than the election. Her turn will come.

“I’m just glad we didn’t have to wake-up to go to school,” Scarangella said.
