RGA mobilizing early in CT, sends in Walker

For the second time in a month, Wisconsin’s deficit-cutting and union-busting Gov. Scott Walker visited Connecticut Tuesday night.

Unlike his May keynote speech at the Prescott Bush Awards Dinner in Stamford, where he was greeted by union protesters and a legion of conservative devotees, Walker flew in under the radar.

Walker spoke at an invitation-only reception organized by the Republican Governors Association at the Greenwich home of former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission chief Richard Breeden, who now runs a hedge fund bearing his name.

In the audience was former U.S. ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley, who is seeking a rematch with first-term Gov. Dannel P. Malloy next year after coming within 6,500 votes of winning the governor’s race in 2010.

Walker is on the executive committee of the RGA, which Foley said is already mobilizing its resources and energies in Connecticut.

The RGA did not overtly solicit political contributions at the reception, but the event was said to be geared toward building up its donor network in the state.

“They see this as a race that can be won if I’m the candidate,” said Foley, who led Malloy 43 percent to 40 percent in a recent Quinnipiac Poll of registered voters.
