Chris Murphy has a sweet tooth.

The National Confectioners Association gave $2,500 to the freshman senator from Connecticut through its political action committee on May 21, Murphy’s most recent filing with the Federal Election Commission shows.

PEZ Candy, which is manufactured in Orange and operates a visitor center at its Connecticut plant, is a member of the trade organization.

Other members of the lobbying group, whose slogan is “Making Life Sweeter Since 1884,” include Jelly Belly, Hershey, Godiva, Mars, Nestle, Russell Stover and Bazooka Candy Brands.

The sugar high has helped Murphy, a former three-term member of the House, raise more money year-to-date than his Democratic colleague Richard Blumenthal.

Since January, Murphy has amassed $354,086 in political donations to Blumenthal’s $304,180.

Blumenthal had more than double the cash on hand of Murphy as of June 30 ($174,669 vs $80,293), however.

Two-time Oscar winning director Milos Forman for “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “Amadeus,” a resident of Warren, gave Murphy $250 on May 24.

More than half of Murphy’s donations for the year come from political action committees such as the General Dynamics Corp. PAC, which gave the senator $1,000 on April 25 and is the parent company of Groton-based submarine builder Electric Boat.

Other PACs that gave to Murphy include:

Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America Inc. PAC ($2,500 on April 25)
Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. Financial & Investments PAC ($1,000 on April 17)
Electrical Contractors PAC ($2,500 on June 28)
Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co. PAC ($3,000 on April 19)
National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors ($5,000 on May 7)
